Kenya

South of Ethiopia is Kenya, where our client is Lab & Allied. Fabtech delivered a turnkey project in three areas of its plant.
The first is the oral solid dosage (OSD) area, where solid medicines taken by mouth are made. The other two are the laboratory and the sterile area, where medicines are made free of living germs.
Kenya: the equipment and the water
Inside the Lab & Allied plant, the project included cleanroom equipment and a dispensing booth. A dispensing booth is an enclosure with filtered air where powders are weighed.
The project also included purified water generation and distribution. Purified water is water treated to the grade that medicine production needs.
Work done: turnkey pharmaceutical project, cleanroom equipment, dispensing booth, purified water generation system and distribution.
How a project in Africa runs
The project for Lab & Allied in Kenya was a turnkey pharmaceutical project. A project like it runs in this order.
First we design the plant, as part of our pharmaceutical engineering services. For Lab & Allied, the project covered three areas: oral solid dosage, the laboratory and the sterile area.
We supply the equipment and the systems. In Kenya this included cleanroom equipment, a dispensing booth and a purified water system.
We install the systems and commission them. Commissioning means starting each system and checking that it runs.
Qualification is the next stage, and it means the written tests and records that prove the plant works as designed. The four stages are design, installation, operational and performance qualification, and engineers call them DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ.
Our equipment qualification page explains each stage.
At handover, you receive the plant and its test records, and your team runs the plant from that day.
