The Fidson Healthcare plant in Nigeria from its entrance road: low buildings with blue roofs, clipped hedges and a paved drive between them

Fidson Healthcare planned six production lines in one plant. A production line is the set of rooms and machines that makes one type of medicine.

Fabtech's contract covered the cleanrooms, the air system, the water, the utilities and the laboratory. A cleanroom is a room where the air is filtered and controlled.

Utilities are the services a plant runs on, such as steam and compressed air.

Work done: a turnkey pharmaceutical project with modular cleanroom panels, cleanroom HVAC systems and high purity water systems. In a turnkey project, one company designs, supplies, installs and tests the plant under one contract.

At Fidson, our contract was for the parts of the plant named here.

The Fidson plant at Sango Ota, step by step

A plant with six production lines needs rooms, air, water and utilities that serve every line.

When one contract covers them, the buyer has:

  • one company that designs the rooms, the air system and the utilities for every line
  • one set of water, steam and air systems for the whole plant
  • one test plan for those systems.

This is how it went at Fidson.

The plan: one plant, six lines

One plant holds six production lines. Fidson Healthcare Plc planned it at Sango Ota, in Ogun State, to supply Nigeria and the West African markets.

Each line needs its own process, its own machines and its own level of cleanliness.

The project stopped

All work on the plant stopped. The first contractor could not bring in the right resources.

No work was done for over 18 months.

Fidson asked Fabtech to take over

Fidson invited Fabtech to take over the project. We sent our project team to the site.

  • a high purity water treatment plant
  • fire prevention and safety equipment
  • a laboratory and a research and development centre

Fabtech's part was commissioned in 15 months

We commissioned our scope in 15 months. Our scope means the work in our contract.

We started and checked every item in it. The plant was built to supply Nigeria and the West African markets.

How Fabtech runs a project in Nigeria

At Fidson, we took over a project that another company had started.

The contract named these stages: design, engineering, supply, installation, validation and commissioning. Validation is the name that contract used for qualification.

Qualification means the written tests and records that prove the plant works as designed. Its four stages are DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ: design, installation, operational and performance qualification.

A new project follows the same stages. Our pharmaceutical engineering services team does the design.

Our equipment qualification page explains each stage of the tests. Fabtech builds plants that are GMP and WHO compliant.

GMP is good manufacturing practice, the rules a medicine plant must follow.

Fabtech's corporate office is in Mumbai, India. We work for international clients.
